Frequently Asked Questions

How are they made?

No they’re not just painted mirrors. All of my glass artworks are painted with enamels and water-gilded onto the reverse of glass. It is this reverse water-gilding technique that gives the gold it’s impressive mirror finish. Each sign is entirely hand painted, no stencils, no tape; quirks and imperfections as standard.

Wooden signs are also entirely hand painted and gilded, but onto the surface of the wood. The enamels and gold are relatively hardwearing and should not become damaged if they are hung safely where they will not be bumped, scratched or scraped.

How much do they cost?

Most artwork commissions range from around £120-£250 depending on the size, and design. If you are after something particularly large, i.e bigger than roughly A3, or complicated it will likely be more than this. Can I commission you? What's the process?

Yes you can!

If you would like to commission an artwork sign from me please send over an email with as much detail as you can about the sign that you want. This includes your preferred size, style, colours, framing, and if you have a budget. Please feel free to include any examples of my work that you like if this helps or you are unsure of what you want.

Once I have a good idea of the sign that you want I will make you a mockup to give you an idea of what the design will look like, and give you a quote on price. From here we can make any changes you want to the design until you are happy. Once the design is finalised and you are happy to proceed, I ask for a deposit of £50 which will come off if the final price of the sign.

Signs can take up to a few weeks to make, so please leave plenty of time if you are ordering for a special occasion. Once your sign is complete I’ll send you a photo of the finished thing and if you’re happy, the balance is paid, and the sign carefully packaged and sent off to you. If you’re local to Shoreham/Brighton/Worthing a drop off can be arranged if you prefer.

If you are commissioning a transom, the process is much the same, except I’ll come to you to create your fancy new door number.

I want a fancy fanlight, where do you work?

Tell me about postage?

All UK orders are always sent ‘signed for’ and will be posted Second Class via Royal Mail unless requested otherwise. The cost will depend on the size of your sign. If you are commissioning a sign then postage will be quoted alongside the cost of your sign once the size has been decided.

If you are outside of the UK and would like to order from my store please get in touch for a postage quote. If you are commissioning a sign outside of the UK, a postage quote can be given once details of the size of your sign are finalised.

Eco Packaging?

I’m a big fan of the planet we call home, and generally do what I can to help not fill it with crap. I religiously hoard any and all packing materials that I can get my hands on, so all boxes, bubble wrap and other safety packaging that your sign arrives with are recycled!

Can I return my sign?

I am unable to accept returns on any commissioned work due to the personal nature of it. Every opportunity is taken to ensure that you are happy with the sign both before it is made with mock ups, and before it is sent to you with photographs of the finished product.

If you are unhappy with a pre-made sign, I will accept a return on these items. Return postage is to be paid by the customer and due to the fragile nature of the item the packaging must be to the same standard that the sign was received in. Any damage caused by inadequate return packaging is the responsibility of the customer and will be charged for accordingly.

Do you run workshops?

In short, no. Sorry! I am but a baby signwriter, who has so much to learn about this craft myself that I could not do justice to teaching it through workshops. If you are looking for a workshop in the South East though I am happy to offer recommendations just drop me a line.
